MIE Board Position Descriptions

CHAIR- will organize each meeting topic and schedule, assist the host institution with the meeting program, coordinate with guest speakers, and represent MIE whenever necessary or appropriate.

  • Attends all MIE member meetings (in-person) and participates in board meetings (in person or via conference call)
  • Ensures all aspects of the professional organization function properly
  • Sets agenda and facilitates regular board meetings, in collaboration with other board members
  • Sets agenda and oversees all MIE member meetings, in collaboration with other board members
  • Addresses the general expectations of MIE members, including the mode of continued meetings/communication throughout the year
  • Manages listserv communication with organization members

CHAIR-ELECT- will assist the chair in all matters and substitute for the chair when necessary. The Chair-Elect will serve as the Chair the following academic year. This is a two-year commitment.

  • Participates regularly in all MIE member meetings and board meetings (in-person or via conference call)
  • Contributes to planning for MIE board and member meetings
  • Focuses on observing and learning responsibilities of the Chair
  • Liaises with presenters and assists Chair where needed
  • Will stand in for Chair when necessary

TREASURER/MEMBERSHIP MANAGER- will collect meeting fees, maintain the organization’s account, issue payments to members and host institutions where appropriate, and provide yearly financial updates. This position will also monitor and update membership records.

  • Participates regularly in all MIE member meetings (in-person) and board meetings (in-person or via conference call)
  • Prepares for and manages the MIE member meeting check-in table (collect dues, manage attendance sheets, etc.) in advance of each member meeting
  • Prepares treasurer’s reports to keep members informed of MIE’s financial status
  • Manages MIE financial accounts
  • Issues payments to members and  host institutions where appropriate
  • Keeps track of attendance statistics and updates/manages the membership list

WEBMASTER - will make website updates and provide general website maintenance.

  • Participates regularly in all MIE member meetings and board meetings (in-person or via conference call)
  • Monitors website and makes needed updates in a timely manner
  • Promotes upcoming events and posts relevant organizational information
  • Maintains the MIE Resource List with current contact information for local agency and NAFSA officials
  • Oversees MIE member meeting webstream and coordinates with Membership Manager on distance viewer participation

SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR- will serve as photographer for events and will post updates, announcements, and other related news on relevant social media sites.

  • Participates regularly in all MIE member meetings and board meetings (in-person or via conference call)
  • Monitor and have access to MIE social media accounts
  • Post photos from MIE member meetings and promote upcoming events and relevant organizational information
  • Manages correspondence on MIE social media accounts

SECRETARY- will take notes and maintain minutes for MIE board and membership meetings. Good written communication required.

  • Participates regularly in all MIE member meetings and board meetings (in-person or via conference call)
  • Take notes of what is discussed at both the MIE board and member meetings
  • Organize notes for easy review
  • Distribute notes to Chair and Webmaster
  • Assists Chair with any write-ups for email communications

MEMBER-AT-LARGE- will assist the host institution in welcoming members at MIE meetings and recording attendance. Assists other board members as necessary.

  • Participates regularly in MIE member meetings and board meetings (in-person or via conference call)
  • Identifies meeting topics and presentation material of interest to members
  • Assists in recruiting speakers and hosts for member meetings
  • Assists other board members with tasks needed
