Spring networking picnic on may 25, 2022

MIE will host a spring networking picnic from 11:30am - 1:30pm at Minnehaha Falls Park in the Wabun Shelter. Lunch will be provided! RSVP form coming soon.

The fall MIE Networking Picnic was held at Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis and was a great opportunity for connecting with colleagues after the start of the fall semester. We lucked out with some gorgeous fall weather. Thank you to our organizers and those who attended!

april 20, 2020: Become an MIE board member

Several MIE board positions are open for the 2020-2021 academic year. 

The open board positions are

  • Chair elect

  • Secretary

  • Webmaster/Social media coordinator

The position descriptions are posted here.  Each position is for 2 years, with the chair elect serving as chair in the second year beginning in May 2021.  Serving as an MIE Board Member is a great way to get more involved in the Minnesota international education community, and develop valuable leadership skills.  If you would like to be considered for a board position, email a letter of interest and a professional biography of less than 100 words to chair@mie-mn.com no later than Monday, April 27.  Biographies will be used on the election ballot to introduce board member candidates.  Elections will take place in the coming weeks. More details on election dates and the process of voting for incoming board members will be shared via the MIE listserv.

MIE will not be meeting on March 18, 2019 due to COVID-19. The board has emailed all members about how to communicate any pertinent information and we will update everyone as soon as possible if we are still meeting in April. Stay safe, all!

Port of Entry Tour 2019

The Summer 2019 Port of Entry Tour provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection was on July 18 at MSP Airport. The next Port of Entry Tour for MIE members is expected to occur during Summer 2020, and members will be notified when the date and time have been scheduled.

Minnesota International Educators (MIE) is proud to announce it will award a travel grant to one member to attend the NAFSA Annual Conference in Washington, DC this May. The grant can be used toward registration, hotel, or airfare, and will cover up to the NAFSA member Early Bird Registration rate of $689.

Grant Application Deadline: March 22, 2019 (Fri), 5pm

Eligibility and Application Checklist: Must be a paid, current MIE member / Financial need / Demonstrated benefit of conference attendance to the applicant and/or MIE

Applicants will be informed of results by Friday, April 5, 2019. The NAFSA Annual Conference Early-bird registration deadline is Friday, April 12, 2019.

For MIE members attending the conference in Washington, DC, we will work on an MIE gathering - Happy Hour or Dinner Out.  More details in April/May.

THE JANUARY 23 MEETING AT BETHEL UNIVERSITY HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER RELATED TRAVEL CONCERNS. We are currently looking into methods of sharing presentation information with members. Please check back here or to our Facebook page for updates.

Talks about an MIE/StudyMN Advocacy Day in the MN state capitol are still underway. In the meantime, you can find information on the NAFSA Advocacy Day in Washington D.C. March 19-20 here.

Early Bird registration for NAFSA's Advocacy Day ends February 20th. Region IV will offer up to 3 Regional Travel Grants to current Region IV Members. Applications are due by February 5th.

Additionally, we are looking for those interested in helping to organize a MN State Advocacy Day in collaboration with Study MN. If you have an issue you would like to address with our representatives, or if you would like to get involved with planning this event, please let us know here by Friday, January 19.

MIE is collecting donations for an MIE "Minnesota" Box to be auctioned off at the NAFSA Tri-Regional Conference Gala & Auction. We are now accepting applications for the MIE travel grant to the upcoming NAFSA Tri-Regional Conference in Denver, CO. One recipient who exemplifies sufficient financial need and benefit of attending the conference, will receive up to $500 to offset conference costs. Travel grant applications are only available to paid MIE members. Applications are due by Wednesday, September 27.
